Beacon House Celebrates new land and a birthday. – July 12

Today was a big day for Beacon House. Not only did we receive a $100,000 donation from River Valley Bank and announced the resurgence of our Capital Campaign ‘Legacy of Love’, it’s also coincidentally a very special birthday for Mary Tavernini Dowling, the CEO of HHUP, which oversees operations of Beacon House, the Wig Salon for Cancer Patients, Hospitality Rooms at UPHS, and Hospitality Gifts. Serendipity! Surprise donations go immediately toward need. – Dec. 20

Today was a great day at Beacon House. We started the day off receiving an incredible donation of 28 cases of food from the TV6 Canathon, courtesy of Mike and Cindy Shewmin at Cherry Creek Market, and came back to be greeted by a group of generous students from Marquette Alternative High School’s ‘Rock the Socks’ program. We’re with you. Read More…

She told me, “I knew my mom was uneasy and my being there brought her great comfort. The stroke certainly affected her reasoning, but she seemed terrified of me leaving the hospital. Being able to stay just a few floors away was such a relief. I was able to get some sleep and something to eat, and be right back with her.” Read More…

Walter, who looks just like he arrived from Finland, is a serious football fan. Shortly after he came to spend five weeks with us while receiving cancer treatment, he determined that our old television in the guest lounge downstairs was in need of an upgrade, and went to Walmart. An hour later, the Packer’s were playing on the 55” set, and Walter and two other cancer patients were cheering them on. Read More…
