Record number of participants in Beards for Beacon fundraiser

MARQUETTE, Mich. — November is often a month to raise awareness about men’s health, many growing beards during ‘No Shave November’, or ‘Movember’. Eighteen gentlemen who work at VAST in Marquette are taking fundraising efforts to the next level, but keeping it local. After a campaign last year when the company successfully raised $2,700 for Beacon House, the men are kicking off the month again growing ‘Beards for Beacon’.

Starting November 1st, the insurance agency will have their entire male staff growing out their facial hair to raise awareness of the Beacon House cause. Spearheaded by Personal Insurance Account Manager, Scott Reddinger, VAST says they’re excited to be partnering with Beacon House, and 100% of the funds raised will be used for monthly operating expenses.

“They provide such a valuable service right here in our community,” said Reddinger. “It’s really great to help out locally, and to be able to see the direct impact of the funds we raise.”

According to Beacon House Public Relations Manager Andrew Lorinser the fundraiser couldn’t come at a better time.

“Last quarter donations to Beacon House are crucial,” said Lorinser. “We rely on creative campaigns organized by generous businesses like VAST to carry us into the new year. We are incredibly grateful VAST has recognized that need.”

“Growing our beards is all about awareness,” said Reddinger. “When friends, family, and clients bring up that we look a little grizzly, that is our opportunity to explain our fundraiser and all of the wonderful things that Beacon House does.”

To step up efforts this year, organizers of the event are getting a few celebrities involved, asking them to share the campaign on social media. The goal is to raise $3,000 through Facebook and online donations.

“We are confident that with our increased efforts, and the help of a few household names, we can definitely reach our goal,” said Reddinger.

Again, this year, prizes will be given each week to those who make donations and to members of VAST who participate in the fundraiser. Beacon House and VAST will announce a winner of ‘Bro-Baskets’ each week by Hospitality Gifts.

You can share the campaign and raise awareness for the Beacon House cause by using the hashtag “#BeardsForBeacon” and donating at upbh.org/beards or using the Facebook non-profit fundraiser.
